Career as a UI/UX designer

If you are searching for a unique career option and have a talent for visual design, psychology of human-computer interaction, web design, and strong technical skills, then User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) designing can be a profitable career choice.

The primary objective of a UI/UX designer is to create an end product that is easy to use and visually appealing. UI and UX designing are separate functions that may or may not be performed by the same person.

UI design focuses on the visual aspects of a product, such as design, color, and placement of elements on a website, to create a fresh and pleasing design. On the other hand, UX design focuses on the usability, experience, and functionality of those designs. It aims to understand the users’ mindset and develop designs accordingly.

“A UI/UX designer must consider various perspectives when designing. The design should be aesthetically pleasing to the eye for business stakeholders, while also taking into account the user’s experience. A visually appealing mobile app may be difficult to use, and a functional design may not be visually appealing. Therefore, a good UI/UX designer needs to understand the business context, stakeholder expectations, and usability for the end user,” says Dipu Kumar, a UI/UX analyst and designer who runs an IT skills training institute in Delhi.

Key skills required for UI/UX designing include understanding business expectations, creative visualization, proficiency in relevant wireframing and graphics design tools, attention to detail, the ability to think and critique designs from an end user’s perspective, good analytical skills, and basic programming skills (helpful, but not mandatory).

You can pursue a UI/UX designing course from various online and offline institutes available nationwide.

The starting salary for a UI/UX designer in India can range from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per month, increasing with experience, according to Sushil Kumar, a freelance designer.

In today’s digital world, a brand’s website/app is the face of the brand. Having a strong and appealing website/app is essential for brand growth and connecting with consumers. Therefore, the field of UI/UX design offers immense opportunities for professionals.
